The Method and Result – The Things You Miss

AREA was the name of a band in the late eighties with a great female voice and a mix of electronics and other odd instruments in the background.

Skinner Box was another late eighties offering who’s sonic landscapes were a real close match to what I hear on The Method and Results - The Things You Miss.

But comparisons to bands from a bygone era probably don’t help much – they are just the things you miss.

So what am I trying to say.

First off, don’t judge this CD by its lackluster cover or by the promotional photo of Mason with his upright bass and Megan holding a red rickenbacker guitar in her lap.

When I first saw this what came mind was some husband and wife version of the White Stripes - and that would be an unfair assessment.

What is presented here is a bed of electronica with some upright bass, guitars and other odd instruments laid on top.

Then the icing on the electronica cake is Megan’s voice, occasionally flanged or doubled or clean, but always floating and moving through a musical landscape which is unique to this pair.

There are six songs. Six things that you will not want to miss.

Catch them live at Nexus (World Theatre) in Cedar Rapids on April 12.

The Method and Result is the band – their CD is “The Things You Miss.”
